WASHINGTON (WAVY) – It’s tax time, but don’t expect as much help from the IRS this year as in year’s past.

The Internal Revenue Service says because of budget cuts, the agency is working with fewer employees. That means phone lines will be very busy and you could spend a long time on hold.

Also this year, the IRS cut its special service for helping senior citizens and lower income taxpayers with preparing their returns.

The tax agency receives more than 100 million phone calls annually. Last year, nearly 40 percent of customer calls went unanswered.
