Power restored after widespread outage


NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) – About 10,000 customers were without power at some point in Norfolk Friday morning, including some schools.

Bonita Harris with Dominion Virginia Power told WAVY.com a malfunction with a transformer on Thole Street caused the outage around 7:40 a.m. Power was restored to about of the of the customers within an hour.

Karen Tanner with Norfolk Public Schools said Mary Calcott Elementary School, Crossroads Elementary School, Suburban Park Elementary School and Northside Middle School were all affected by the outage.

Some traffic lights were also affected along Tidewater Drive.

Power was restored by 9:30 a.m., Harris said.
