CHINCOTEAGUE, Va. (AP) — A magazine has named Chincoteague one of the nation’s 10 happiest seaside towns.
The designation appears in the March issue of Coastal Living magazine, which hit newsstands Friday. An online vote will determine an overall winner.
Chincoteague Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Evelyn Shotwell tells the Eastern Shore News (http://delmarvane.ws/MjEOTb) that the town is honored by the designation.
Other finalists are Bolinas, Calif.; Captiva Island, Fla.; Haleiwa, Hawaii; Provincetown, Mass.; Saugatuck, Mich.; Scarborough, Maine; St. Augustine, Fla.; St. Simons Island, Ga.; and Watch Hill, R.I.
Among the many factors for the top 10 designation included crime rates, standards of living, the percentage of sunny days and commute times.
Voting is open through March 31 on the magazine’s website, www.coastalliving.com/happytowns2014. The results will appear in the magazine this summer.
