SUFFOLK, Va. (WAVY) – Several animals died in a barn fire in Suffolk Friday morning.

Diana Klink with the City of Suffolk said the fire sparked around 9:15 a.m. in the 1400 block of Buckhorn Drive near Route 58.

When crews arrived, they found a pole barn fully engulfed in flames. Animals were still inside.

Klink said the fire was extinguished quickly and was confined to the barn. Nine goats and one sheep died in the fire.

The barn was also used as a tack shop for horse equipment, Klink added. The equipment and the barn were a total loss.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation at this time.
