I Am HR: Dr. E. Curtis Alexander

I am Hampton Roads

CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) – The address is 1001 Bells Mills Road in Chesapeake. There, you will find the only private unknown and known Afro-Union Civil War Soldiers Memorial.

The man responsible for making sure these soldiers’ legacy lives on is a Hampton Roads native who has been studying and promoting the advancement and history of African American people for more than 50 years.

His incredible family history made Dr. E. Curtis Alexander’s story this week’s “I Am Hampton Roads.”
