VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) – Police have charged two men in connection to an assault and robbery along Princess Anne Road last week.

Justin wayne Squires, 22, and Steven Girard Farland, Jr., 32, both of Virginia Beach, were arrested and charged with robbery, felonious assault, conspiracy to commit a felony and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony.

James Sparks was traveling in the 5200 block of Princess Anne Road Feb. 3 around 2 a.m. when he noticed two large construction barrels blocking the road, James Cason with the Virginia Beach Police Department said. Sparks got out and moved them.

Sparks saw two men and asked if they put the barrels in the road and at some point an altercation ensued. Cason said the men assaulted Sparks and stole some of his things.

Sparks’ mother, Joy, told WAVY.com her son ended up with broken teeth and a broken jaw and had to have surgery.

Police believe the crime was an isolated incident.
