CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) – Chesapeake Police are investigating the city’s first homicide of 2014 after a woman was found dead in a home over the weekend.
Kelly O’Sullivan with the Chesapeake Police Department said officers were dispatched to the home in the 1400 block of Foxton Street to check on a woman. There, they found the body of Stacey Velder, 40.
What began as a death investigation was upgraded to a homicide investigation Monday following an autopsy, O’Sullivan said. Velder’s cause of death has not been released.
A person of interest was taken into custody for an unrelated case. Police are not releasing that person’s name at this time. O’Sullivan said the victim knew the person of interest.
