VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) — Virginia Beach City Council has approved a new baseball stadium that will be home to a minor league team.
At a city council meeting Tuesday night, council members voted 10-0 in approval of the plan for Virginia Beach Professional Baseball, LLC to build the five to six thousand seat stadium near the Virginia Beach Sportsplex. A 13-field youth tournament complex will be built adjacent to the stadium.
The $40 million project will be privately financed — meaning no taxpayer money will be used. However, the city will give tax breaks on tickets and real estate over the next 20 years.
The stadium is expected to be complete by April 2015. The minor league team that will play there will be from the Atlantic League.
