RICHMOND, Va. (WAVY) — February is Black History Month, and Dominion Virginia Power honored African-American trailblazers at its Strong Men and Women program last week.

At the program in Richmond Wednesday, Hampton’s Boo Williams was recognized for mentoring young athletes. He founded a high school summer league basketball program, which has become internationally recognized.

Also honored was Garrett Jones, who attends Greenbrier Christian Academy in Chesapeake. He and three other high school students won an essay contest about overcoming obstacles in their communities.

The program was held in conjunction with the Library of Virginia.
