One injured in Kempsville-area house fire

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) – A civilian was injured in a Kempsville-area house fire Monday evening.

Battalion Chief Jack Crandle with the Virginia Beach Fire Department said a call for a fire in the 5300 block of Challedon Drive came in around 8:25 p.m. Fire crews arrived just before 8:30 p.m. and controlled the flames by 8:35 p.m.

A bedroom in the single-story home was fully involved in the fire, but fully extinguished around 8:45 p.m.

Four people and a dog were at home at the time of the fire, including one juvenile. Crandle said all made it out okay, but two are being evaluated by medics as a precaution and one person is being evaluated for smoke inhalation and minor burn injuries.

All four residents are displaced from the home due to fire damage.
