Erin Kelly reports on cleanup after the snow storm

RICHMOND, Va. (WAVY) – It has been an extremely cold winter and with the warm weather still a way off, the Virginia Department of Social Services is sending a reminder that applications for its Energy Assistance Program (EAP) are still being accepted.

If you would like to apply for assistance, you have until March 17. Click here to find your local Department of Social Services.

“No citizen should have to face the winter months without heat,” said Margaret Schultze, Virginia Department of Social Services’ Commissioner. “The Crisis Assistance program is designed to help households overcome energy emergencies that cannot be met by other resources.”

To qualify for assistance, the max gross monthly income for a one-person household cannot exceed $1,245. For a family of four, the max amount is $2,552.

Last year, more than 23,000 households received assistance.
