NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) – A man was arrested after officers say he charged at one of their own and tried to bite a nurse in January.
Lou Thurston with the Newport News Police Department said officers were dispatched to the 300 block of Hogan Drive around 1 a.m. Jan. 8 for a report of a man banging on the door of a home and threatening to kill the person inside.
The suspect left before officers arrived, but was later located nearby after police received a similar report at another home.
When officers approached the suspect, identified as Victor Guadalupe Mercado-Gudino, he began growling and charged at an officer, Thurston said.
“Officers recognized the suspect’s behavior as what is associated with a person under the influence of ‘spice,’ and transported him to a local hospital,” Thurston said. Police say Mercado-Gudino tried to bite a nurse and also made lewd remarks and movements to another nurse.
Thurston said Mercado-Gudino also lunged aggressively toward a third nurse. He had to be subdued with a Taser.
Mercado-Gudino, 42, of Newport News was later charged with one count each of misdemeanor disorderly conduct, drunk in public and assault and felony indecent exposure (actual or simulated masturbation).
