Police track down man wanted for child neglect

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) – A man Newport News Police say is no stranger to their officers, was arrested Wednesday on outstanding felony child neglect charges.

Officers were patrolling the area of Colony Road and Red Barn on Warwick Boulevard around 3 p.m. when they spotted Nico Lackland, 20, standing next to a vehicle.

Police spokesman Harold Eley told WAVY.com when officers were advising Lackland of his arrest for the warrants, they searched Lackland and discovered several baggies containing what they believed to be marijuana. So he was also summoned for possession.

The child neglect warrant dates back to an incident in November. According to police, there was an infant in the vehicle Lackland was in when he charged with possession of a concealed weapon and possession of marijuana.
