NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) – A man is facing child abuse and neglect charges after allegedly getting a 14-year-old to be his designated driver. 30-year-old Victor Labega was arrested Thursday night.
Harold Eley with the Newport News Police Department said an officer pulled a car over for not having any rear lights on along Jefferson Avenue at 10:29 p.m. Eley said the driver turned out to be a 14-year-old boy.
Labega told the officer he called the child to pick him up because he was drunk and unable to drive.
Labega was arrested and charged with abuse and child neglect: reckless disregard for life. The 14-year-old driver was issued a summons for no operator’s license.
