NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — Police have warrants out for a Newport News man accused of assaulting a family member, child abuse and reckless driving.
Harold Eley with the Newport News Police Department said in a news release, officers were dispatched to the 1000 block of J. Clyde Morris Boulevard for a domestic call on Thursday, involving Austin Travis Anderson, 20, of the 100 block of Ranch Drive.
The victim, a 21-year-old Yorktown woman, told officers her baby’s father, Anderson, was taking her and the infant to a doctor’s appointment when they got in an argument over their child.
“Mr. Anderson pulled into the parking lot of the Country Inn Suites at 1069 J. Clyde Morris Boulevard and ordered the mother out of the car,” Eley said. “As she stepped out, Mr. Anderson reportedly sped off in the car with her halfway out and with her son’s door open almost slinging the baby, who was seated in a car seat, out of the vehicle.”
Then Anderson allegedly stopped the car and assaulted the victim, holding her and the baby down in the car seat. That’s when a witness intervened and told Anderson she had called police. He sped off down J. Clyde Morris towards Jefferson Avenue.
