NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) – A former Virginia Beach probation officer and her husband were sentenced on charges involving methamphetamine.
Katherine M. Kephart and Charles M. Kephart were caught in a conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine after law enforcement received a tip in November 2012 that the two were trafficking methamphetamine from Asheville, N.C. to the Eastern District of Virginia.
According to court documents, Norfolk police and FBI conducted a sting operation with Charles Kephart in February 2013. He was arrested after selling meth to an undercover officer, and then Norfolk FBI agents executed a federal search warrant at the couple’s Norfolk residence.
Agents found drug paraphernalia and learned that Katherine Kephart was using her position as a Virginia Beach probation officer to find out if prospective drug conspirators were under court supervision or working for law enforcement.
Katherine Kephart was sentenced Friday to 78 months (six years and six months) behind bars for conspiracy to distribute and possess with intent to distribute five grams or more of methamphetamine.
Charles Kephart was sentenced in January to the same amount of time behind bars on the same charges.
