NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) — Newport News fire fighters responded to a fire in a one-story, unoccupied home in the 2600 block of Marshall Avenue Friday afternoon.

In a news release, Deputy Fire Chief Kenneth Lay said the call came in just before 4 p.m. Crews reported fire venting from the back of the small home when they got to the scene.

“Firefighters were able to stop the fire from advancing throughout the entire house for minimal damage,” Lay said.

There were no injuries. Investigators are still trying to determine the cause.
