28 arrested in NN prostitution sweep

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) – Twenty-eight people were arrested as a result of a prostitution sweep in Newport News that began on Jan. 23.

Lou Thurston with the Newport News Police Department said the arrests were part of the “National Day of Johns Arrests,” which was conducted over the course of four days.

Starting Jan. 23, the operation covered different parts of Newport News, including on the streets, in hotels, and via the Internet. Twenty-eight people, in total, were charged with prostitution-related offenses.

Five Newport News women were arrested on Jan. 23 and charged with prostitution:

  • Terry Boddie, 43
  • Wanda Mallow, 29
  • Mona Lisa Morrell, 46
  • Danielle Rakes, 36, also charged with possession of heroin and cocaine
  • Tonya Whitehead, 44

Seven men were arrested on Jan. 24, each charged with solicitation of prostitution and use of a vehicle to promote prostitution:

  • Edward Easley, 45, of Grafton
  • James Gohr, 67, Hampton
  • Christopher Juliano, 54, of Newport News
  • Todd Kwamina, 44, of Virginia Beach
  • Marvin Shields, 45, of Yorktown
  • Jagmanpreet Singh, 32, of Gainsville
  • Paul Winslow, 62, of Suffolk

Seven people were arrested on Jan. 25:

  • Deone Davis, 33, of Newport News: Solicitation of prostitution, possession with intent to distribute marijuana, possession with intent to distribute ecstasy
  • Lester Dixon, 32, of Hampton: Solicitation of prostitution
  • Joel Geiser, 40, of Norfolk: Solicitation of prostitution
  • Heather Hacker, 34, of Chesapeake: Prostitution
  • O’Ona Hobson, 34, of Newport News: Solicitation of prostitution, possession with intent to distribute marijuana, possession with intent to distribute ecstasy, possession of Oxycodone
  • William Rose, 35, of Newport News: Solicitation of prostitution
  • Kerry Wiggins, 45, of Newport News: Solicitation of prostitution, possession with intent to distribute marijuana, possession with intent to distribute cocaine

Nine people were arrested and charged with solicitation of prostitution on Jan. 31:

  • Arieus Boykins, 29, of Chesapeake
  • Mark Campbell, 51, of Newport News
  • John Christian, 27, of Ft. Eustis
  • Robert Gary, Jr., 38, of Hampton. Also charged with possession with intent to distribute marijuana, concealed weapon, possession of a concealed weapon by a felon
  • Hal Haskins, 49, of Newport News
  • Shashim Jones, 19, of Newport News
  • William Joyner, 46, of Portsmouth
  • Anthony Lewallen, 22, of Newport News
  • Christopher Veasley, 29, of Chesapeake
