NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) — Police, fire crews and bomb squads responded to a report of a suspicious device in a Norfolk parking lot Thursday evening.

Battalion Chief Julian Williamson with Norfolk Fire-Rescue said Norfolk first responders and the U.S. Navy Explosive Ordnance were dispatched to the 200 block of Ligon Street after a call came in around 4:50 p.m. about a suspicious device in the General Dynamics Nassco parking lot.

When Norfolk fire crews arrived at 4:57 p.m., they established an exclusion zone in the area of the device. But after a thorough investigation, it was determined that the metal device found wasn’t an explosive device or any type of ordinance, Williamson said.
