HAMPTON ROADS, Va. (WAVY) — Hampton Roads Transit buses are parked another day because of the snow, and that has impacted rider Ruby Clinton’s routine.
“I found out there was no bus service this morning,” she said. “They were no longer running today. I couldn’t go to work.”
HRT’s Tom Holden said bus service stopped Tuesday evening, with no service on Wednesday, Thursday or Friday.
“It’s not called for,” said Lorenzo Powell, another bus rider. “The buses still should have run. The roads are clear enough for the buses to run.”
But Holden said with snow and ice piled up at many bus stops, it’s not safe for riders, operators or anyone else.
“We understand the frustration people have when they don’t have access to transit services,” he said. “We have to make it the safest we reasonably can. Good judgement requires us to take all precautions as necessary to prepare for service.”
Crews are out clearing snow from the more than 350 bus shelters around the region. Bus service is scheduled to resume Saturday.
