VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) – A driver has been charged after he crashed his vehicle into a home in Virginia Beach Wednesday morning, injuring several people.

The crash occurred in the 300 block of Plaza Trail Court in the Windsor Woods section of the city around 11:15 a.m. according to MPO James Cason with the Virginia Beach Police Department.

The driver, 53-year-old Mark Allen of Virginia Beach, was charged with failure to maintain lane of travel, Cason said.

Battalion Chief Amy Valdez with the Virginia Beach Fire Department said two people inside the home were injured and two people inside the vehicle were injured. None of the injuries are considered life-threatening.

Valdez said the driver of the vehicle was transported to a local hospital because of a medical emergency that appears to have contributed to the crash. The two inside the home were also transported to a local hospital.

Power had to be secured and because of the damage, the home will be condemned for the night.

Chopper 10 flew over the scene and found the vehicle nearly completely inside the home. It was pulled from the home and towed away from the scene by 12:30 p.m.

“The car was all the way inside the building,” a witness, Dale, told WAVY News’ Jason Marks. “The building started collapsing around the car. There was an old man and a little kid who were trapped in there. They were more worried about getting them out.”
