PORTSMOUTH, Va. (WAVY) — Firefighters rescued four pets from a house fire in Portsmouth Monday night.
Chief Hoffler with the Portsmouth Fire Department said a 911 call came around 6:18 p.m. in for a residential fire alarm in the 5200 block of Johnson Avenue.
When crews arrived, they found an active kitchen fire and were able to contain the flames in that room and control the fire quickly. No one was injured, and three cats and a dog were rescued.
The kitchen was the only area the received fire damage, but the rest of the home was damaged by smoke. The residents will be displaced because the power and gas lines had be be shut off, Hoffler said.
