NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) – A Newport News man is facing a felony child abuse charge after a 9-year-old girl reported she was ‘whipped’ with a belt.
Lou Thurston with the Newport News Police Department told WAVY.com the child reported the incident to school officials on Jan. 10 and said her father had hit her with the belt the night before.
The girl had marks consistent with being hit with a belt as well as marks on her face, Thurston said.
A warrant was obtained Jan. 16 on a charge of felony child abuse for Leondus Fred Woods, 31, of Newport News. Woods was arrested Wednesday.
