COMO, N.C. (WAVY) – Seventeen trailers are gone after fire ripped through a popular hunting club this week.

It happened Tuesday around 1:15 p.m. at the Camp PD Hunt Club off Mill Neck Road in Hertford County, North Carolina.

Como Volunteer Fire Chief Jason Howell said 17 campers were on fire when crews arrived and it took about three hours to extinguish the flames. Crews believe the flames started in one camper because of an electrical short and spread to nearby campers like dominoes.

The campers were used by club members when they stopped by for their hunting trips. They were full of supplies, and in many cases, sentimental items.

Camp PD Hunt Club began in 1890. 10 On Your Side spoke with several members for whom this is huge blow.
