VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. (WAVY) – A tree fell on a home in Virginia Beach as the snow fell during the overnight hours Wednesday.

The tree fell in the Kings Grant neighborhood and the damage caused firefighters to condemn the house. Three people were inside, but all made it out safely.

WAVY.com spoke with the homeowner, Sandy Self, who said, “It sounded like a train hit the house.”

She and her oldest daughter were asleep upstairs and heard the noise, but her younger daughter, 8-year-old Jessica, had fallen asleep on the couch and was nearly crushed by the falling ceiling.

Jessica told WAVY.com, “I just heard a loud noise and then I jumped over a pole thingy.”

Jessica was no worse for the ware when we met her. She was sledding outside with her sister and neighbor kids.

The family has insurance and hopes to rebuild. They are staying with family for now.
