Hampton inmate found unresponsive, dies

HAMPTON, Va. (WAVY) – An inmate in Hampton died Friday evening after being found unresponsive in his cell.

When staff members found 46-year-old Arthur Lee Dobbs unresponsive in his cell, they immediately began CPR, according to Lt. Cherry with the Hampton Correctional Facility. Medics arrived and transported Dobbs to Sentara Careplex, where he was pronounced dead at 5:23 p.m.

Dobbs was committed to the Hampton Correctional Facility on Wednesday for felony shoplifting.

The Medical Examiner’s Office is working to determine the cause of death.
