Firefighters battle ship fire in Norfolk

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) – Investigators are looking into a cause behind a ship fire in Norfolk Wednesday morning.

Battalion Chief Julian Williamson with Norfolk Fire and Rescue told WAVY.com crews were dispatched to the 400 block of East Indian River Road around 5:45 a.m. for a ship fire at Colonna Shipyard.

When crews arrived on scene, nothing was showing initially, but firefighters discovered a small exterior fire on the ship. The fire was quickly extinguished and was contained to the exterior, Williamson said.

No one was injured.
