Chesapeake Police find, arrest escaped suspect

CHESAPEAKE, Va. (WAVY) – Police arrested a man they say escaped custody through a police cruiser window in December.

46-year-old Melvin Vaughn was arrested at 11 a.m. in the 1500 block of Berkley Avenue in Norfolk, according to Kelly O’Sullivan with the Chesapeake Police Department.

Vaughn was pulled over for a traffic stop near the intersection of Campostella Road and Border Road on Dec. 7 and taken into custody for petit larceny and possession with intent to distribute marijuana.

O’Sullivan said while the officer was tending to Vaughn’s vehicle, Vaughn was able to get out of the police cruiser through a window, and escaped.
